Setsubun No Hi – Demons Out! Good Fortune In!

Setsubun No Hi (節分の日) is a traditional event making to the day before the spring season commences, according to the Japanese lunar calendar. If you visit Japan on the 2, 3, or 4th of February, you will see people throwing beans at the Japan demons. People have to throw roast soybean and candy while chanting “Oni wa soto! Fuku wa chi!” (Demons out! Good fortune in!) in line with the traditional folk song.

Also, you have to turn to the lucky direction for the year which shows on Japan’s old calendar, and eat ego-maki (恵方巻, kinda sushi roll) whole roll in complete silence for good luck.
