Yunokawa Onsen, which has a history of more than 300 years, is one of the bases for sightseeing in Hakodate, with many inns and hotels lined up. The Yunokawa Onsen Fireworks Festival is held every year on Saturdays from mid-August to late August after the Obon festival. (Obon is a traditional Japanese event to welcome the spirits of ancestors.) They dedicate hot water to the Yukura Shrine, which is known as the guardian deity of Yunokawa Onsen, hold a “hot water offering ceremony” to express our gratitude, and launch fireworks at night.
Many tourists and locals gather near the mouth of the Matsukura River at the launch site. There is a place between the Hakodate Tropical Botanical Garden and the Matsukura River to watch the fireworks. If you go through a passageway, there is a beach to watch the fireworks too.
Where To Watch The Firework
Although it is a little far away, the Yukawa fishing port is also a great viewing place. The skyline of Hakodate city, the light of hotels, the water below the firework, and the beautiful firework make the view picturesque.
You can see a beautiful co-star with the light of the squid fishing boats on the Tsugaru Straits. Some of the fireworks are squid-shaped and unique, giving you a feeling of Hakodate.
Best 2 Things Recommend To Travel Families
For travel families, I recommend to stay at one of the hotels few days in the Yunokawa Onsen region. It’s convenient to see the fireworks, sometimes you can see them from your room. Also, you can try to dress in the Japanese traditional summer clothes – Yukata and enjoy the fireworks. It will be an unforgettable trip.
