About Asahiyama Park
Asahiyama Park is 295 meters above sea level and extends to the foot of Mt. Asahi. And it is located next to Asahiyama Zoo, about 10 km east of the central city. In 1912, the national forest of Mount Kitoshi was acquired and became a park. Further, it was opened as a city park by Higashi Asahikawa Town and Asahikawa City on August 15, 1963.
Asahiyama Park spreads out in the hills surrounded by nature. Meanwhile, it’s well-preserved in natural beauty forests and is a famous place for cherry blossoms.

Cherry blossom
The cherry blossoms start from early May to mid-May. Locals like to picnic under the blooming cherry trees and barbecue in the season. There are about 3,500 cherry trees and Japanese erythronium in the park, which makes the view picturesque. Moreover, it’s available to view cherry blossoms in the daytime and nighttime in Asahiyama Park. The Night Cherry Blossom Festival (旭山公園夜桜まつり) is held in early May every year.
In addition to cherry blossoms, you can see the Catakli flowers and Corydalis. Woodpeckers have also arrived in May.
NOTICE: It’s permitted to use fire until the end of May. So it is crowded with people who enjoy a barbecue in the park from the end of May.

Asahiyama Miura Garden
Asahiyama Miura Garden is a private Japanese garden located in Asahiyama Park. Since the late Takeshi Miura was created in 1965, it has been cultivated for decades by lovingly managing it daily. From late June to early August, about 2,000 colourful water lily flowers bloom with many wildflowers.

Asahiyama Park extends on the slope at the foot of Mount Asahiyama. It’s 20 odd minutes of an easy walk up the hill and receives a beautiful view of the Asahikawa countryside and meditative experience. There are many squirrels, owls, and wild birds. How To Get Here
From Sapporo to Asahikawa, it will take about 2-2.5hour. From Biei to Asahikawa will take about 30 minutes.
By Car
About 30 minutes from Asahikawa Station.
By Bus
From Asahikawa Station Bus Stop No.6, take Bus No. 41, 42, or 47 and get off at Asahiyama Zoo bus Stop.
